 Remain 3 Released
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 3:49 PM
Category: DOOM

I noticed on /id Games that Deadall released a Doom 2, megawad consisting of 13 levels for GZDoom.
This GZDoom megawad is a retrospective show of the classical Doom from the height of today's abilities of "zdoom in doom" format.
Now might be a good time to check out Remain 3.

 Quake Live Preview
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:57 AM
Category: Quake

I was checking out Games Radar and they have a preview posted up for Quake Live.
Nine years on, a significant number of gamers still play the increasingly modded Quake III, suggesting there’s no reason why it shouldn’t pick up a new following. Much of the modding has been incorporated into the Live version, along with aesthetic improvements.
Hit that Quake Live preview over on Games Radar.

Jace Hall Hits id Software And Gets Headlocked By Carmack
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 3:10 PM
Category: id Software

Over on Crackle you can hit this particular spot and check out episode 13 of the Jace Hall show. After Jace visits Gearbox he ends up at id Software, chats with Todd Hollenshead and ends up with John Carmack showing him some martial art move and he gets to see the Doom 4 team relax. Nothing new is revealed as far as id Soft is concerned. Anyhow that's all I have for now.

 Here Is Sum Fun Gunz
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:01 PM
Category: DOOM

Here we are looking at Doom 3 Files again because these Fun Gunz are just sitting there waiting to be used, all because asheer took the time to put together the weapons pack for Doom 3.
Basically some guns have been changed around to make the game a little more interesting in my opinion. Ever wanted to play football with a grenade and any monster? well now you can since the grenades have been transformed into Rocketnades. just pop the top and let it loose to see it shot across the screen or splatter monster pieces everywhere.
Check it out, or not.... is all up to you.

Murph released version 1.2 of his =UAC= BFG Campbell mod, which allows the player to spawn some 'melee warriors' that help you out in singleplayer mode.
=UAC= BFG Campbell is a Special Edition mod offering Doom3's own model brought to life by combining some of the contributions of the developers mentioned in the readme. Campbell is a spawn-in "Follower" Marine who comes 'Alert Ready' and once he fires the BFG... KABOOM!!!... Enemy?... What enemy ????

HeXen Edge of Chaos Needs Mappers
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:26 PM
Category: DOOM

The HeXen: Edge Of Chaos team is looking for level designers. On the site the latest news item says...
WE NEED MAPPERS, WE NEED MAPPERS, WE NEED MAPPERS, WE NEED MAPPERS.......
Unsure of the date, I looked on thier Mod dB page and there's more info on there.
We'll keep this short and easy, Edge of Chaos is a 4 years in development total conversion for Doom3. Our current build weighs in at about 2 GB's of assets, models, sounds and textures. We have most monsters, many game play elements, and weaponry in place but our development is being hugely delayed by lack of good maps.
So if you want to map for the Doom 3 mod, then maybe you should read the rest of the Mod dB page and then contacr em or somethin'.

 Alternate Monster Squad v1.1
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 5:16 PM
Category: DOOM

Version 1.1 of the Alternate Monster Squad was released by Murph. The mod tweaks some of the Doom 3 monsters plus adds a few custom ones as well and is designed for singleplayer.
Teaming up with Dafama2K7 and his "Dark" side, as well as Altroth Akenzie, they have provided new zombies to mix it up with for your spawn-in enjoyment! "Zombie Z-Squad" is an elite 'Infantry Squad' gone bad! These guys are not nice! Like "Zombie Z-Sec" they look to ruin your day! Except..instead of shooting you... these guys would like to tear you to pieces with their bare hands!
Grab that Alternate Monster Squad over on Doom 3 Files.

 Hollenshead N' Carmack Interview
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 12:03 PM
Category: id Software

I was just on gameindustry.biz and they put up an interview in the form of this Hollenshead & Carmack - Part One article where they talk about id Tech, Steam, software pirates and stuff.
Working with Valve has been really nice. For us, we've always felt this kind of direct relationship with the fans - QuakeCon and then we still have the id Store and things like that - so although this is via Steam, we still feel it's more direct to consumer or the game fan than going through a publisher or that sort of stuff. People who are fans of all the games...the price is right, it can't be more convenient than just downloading to your computer, and Valve's got a great platform with Steam.
Go read the rest of that Hollenshead & Carmack - Part One interview jobby.

Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 3:10 PM

According to what I read on Mod db the Doom 3 mods, Mind and Desolated: The Crying Fate have decided to cooperate by sharing assets, knowledge and experience.
As already announced by DaveTheFreak (Desolated: The Crying Fate Lead Designer) our two mods are cooperating to reach the same objective, to give the player the best gaming experience possible.

 Claustral Released
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:02 PM
Category: DOOM

I was scanning some Doom sites when I noticed that Acyclitor updated his Ibixian Blood site. Seems that a map he made came back from the void, so to speak....
Made over a year ago, during the start of the 1024 size limitation fad, Claustral is a 1024 map that I had deleted and forgotten until just recently. Turns out my friend & playtester hung onto it all this time.
Hit Ibixian Blood on this spot right here for that map.

Doom 3: Phobos Is Back From The Shadows!
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 5:09 PM
Category: DOOM

Kristus dropped me a message. Team Future is back with a relaunch of thier Doom 3 Phobos website, which includes screenshots, story info, mod features and other interesting info.
Doom 3: Phobos is a 3 episode project which continues the story in Doom 3. It is set in between Doom 3 and its expansion pack, Resurrection of Evil. Doom 3: Phobos will feature more variation than the original 2004 game, and will bring back more of the traits that made the original Dooms successful.
By the way, have a look at those screenshots..... there's one monster that id Software should of had in the game. Looks bad ass! Go look now! [edit] Also note that they're looking for some help with the mod (coder, concept artist, level designers, animator, modelers, etc...) as you can read in this post on our forum or read the help page on the site.

 New Diaz Buildz
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:11 PM

It looks like WildWeasel has updated that Diaz project he has going on and I think I missed a couple updates of the mod. Here are the new fixes.
  • Corrected a reload bug with the boosted slugthrower.
  • Hernandez no longer attempts his impression of Diaz when taunting.
  • The basic skeleton of a new weapon has been implemented...read on.
The other fixes from versions I missed... you can read for yourself on the Doom Armory. The downgrab is there in the top post....

 Allied Marine Squadmates v7 ufo
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:01 PM
Category: DOOM

Murph has put some new life into the Allied Marine Squadmates mod which is now at v7.ufo.
After much work you'll find that this new mod build is heavy with some awesome upgrades! "=AMS= v.7.ufo" combines the talent and skill of some premier "Doom3" modders who lent their support and contributions to this latest =AMS= effort! After the well received "=AMS= v.6uu" debuted with some needed upgrades to "=AMS= v.5"... many "Doom3" fans wrote in with more suggestions to implement. Aiming to please =AMS= fans, I went back to work on the new mod up.
Have a look at those Allied Marine Squadmates over on Doom 3 Files....

Time To Revisit The Origin Facility
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:50 PM
Category: DOOM

Ice Weasel re-released his multiplayer, Doom 3 map, Origin Facility as Origin Facility: Revisited.
This is a very intense map, visually speaking, and was originally intended to look good more than anything else. there are a lot of particle effects and details with brushwork and lighting. as such, older computers might not be wholly up to scratch with running it.
That Doom 3 map is available thanks to Doom 3 Files.

 id Declines Quake MMO Proposals
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:21 PM
Category: id Software

I was messing around Shack News and noticed this article where id Software said NO to publishers seeking a possible Quake MMO.
Saying that id had passed on several offers of "good money" to develop a Quake MMO, Carmack added that the company would not be attempting a similar project anytime soon.
Read more in that article.

By the way, the 'save' button on there isn't for saving the video(s) on your comp, but for saving your preferences and you have to click it to get the vids to run.

id Decisions Not Based On PC
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:40 AM
Category: id Software

Edge Online has some words from Carmack in this id "No Longer Makes Decisions Around PC" article.
“We still think the PC is a market worth supporting, but we’re not making decision around the PC. It’s probably more of the junior partner in the cross-platform strategy, although obviously, our day-to-day development is predominately on the PC.”
I think we heard similar words before... about a year ago or so. Anyhow, Rage and Doom 4 will be on the PC, so no worries there.......

douglas_quaid released the final version of a mod for Doom 3 that is called The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The mod adds faster walk/run, swaps player sounds for chainsaw zombie sounds, no chainsaw gibbing, new weapons sounds and changed menu music.
This is a single player sound mod that gives you the chance to become Sawyer or as I like to call him, Leatherface!
Check out The Texas Chainsaw Massacre over on Doom 3 Files.

 Critical Carmack
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:00 PM
Category: id Software

Up on Boomtown is some critical words from John Carmack about Apple boss, Steve Jobs.
"The truth is Steve Jobs doesn’t care about games," Carmack told Eurogamer. "This is going to be one of those things that I say something in an interview and it gets fed back to him and I’m on his shithead list for a while on that, until he needs me to do something else there.
Here is the link to the article over there.

 Rage Game Design Trailer
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 3:46 PM

 The Rise Of id
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 12:27 PM
Category: DOOM

Over on Shack News they posted an article concerning John Carmacks keynote at QuakeCon 2008 and here is a snip:
Carmack's plan is to hand the id Tech 5 engine over to the Doom team with few changes, allowing production to focus almost entirely on the creative side of things. While it will target a lower framerate than Rage, and look three times better for it, the pure design will receive the most attention. Hints at a return to the action-heavy style of Doom II already have fans feeling optimistic.

 In Defense Of Doom 3
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:28 AM

A visit to Eurogamer reveals a couple articles concerning id Software's views on Doom 3, which includes Todd Hollenshead defending the game and then Tim Willits having some follow-up words as well. The Hollenshead article is a little older (July 8th) ~ (I didn't see this one before) and the Willits one is more up to date (today). Here are the links:So there's some reading right there. Nothing new, but interesting just the same.

Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:59 AM

I was on Kotaku and I spotted some stuff about Todd Hollenshead saying he would like to do another Doom movie .
"Personally I'd like to do another Doom movie, I thought working with it was a blast," he said. "There are some lessons we learned. The best way to do things better is to get the experience."
Like others have said, let there be Demons from Hell this time.... heh.

 Some Doom 4 Info
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:47 AM
Category: DOOM

Good olde Shack News posted up this Doom 4 First Info article and the word from John Carmack is that the game will be more focused on action elements akin to Doom 2, rather than the horror theme used in Doom 3..
"It has to be a triumph of heavy weaponry over demonic forces in some way, and you have to be blowing demons all to hell all around you, and it's a more positive side of things there."

Doom 4 Title To Be Changed?
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:21 AM
Category: DOOM

Over on Kotaku they have some info about Doom 4 and it seems that (id Software) hasn't quite decided yet on an actual title for the game.
"We are working on what the story is going to be for the game right now, the logo (shown during QuakeCon) didn’t have a four or a subtitle. We haven’t made the decision about that yet. There is probably a let's not make a numeral game and some say we should make it one."

 id Sofware Reveals Cancelled Game
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 5:14 PM
Category: id Software

Guess what! We once again have to visit Shack News because this time they have some info about id Software's cancelled game after they talked with John Carmack and Matt Hooper. The game in question was called Darkness and had been in development for 18 months before they decided to stop.
"We would have been keeping Doom 3's faults," said Carmack, who agreed that complaints of the "contrived nature of monsters hiding in closets" and overly dark environments of Doom 3 were "completely valid."
You can read more about the cancelled title right here.

Doom 4 Multiplayer To Rival MP In Doom 3
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:43 AM
Category: DOOM

Lets all hit Shack News because they put up this article where Carmack has been quoted as saying that the multiplayer part of Doom 4 will be better than the multiplayer in Doom 3.
"[Doom 4 multiplayer] will not be as good of a multiplayer as Quake Live is, but it should still be good, and we will intend it to be better than Doom 3 or Quake 4 multiplayer," said Carmack.
That's about all the info there is about Doom 4 out of QuakeCon, so far. Thanks to sLydE for the link. Now lets also hope the singleplayer portion of Doom 4 to kick Doom 3 in the Olympus Mons.
