 Un-Released Tormentor Maps
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:55 PM
Category: DOOM

I was on Wads In Progress and noticed there's two maps listed as released, however there is no download link yet and it looks like they're part of some project called SMII.... whatever that is. The maps Facing Evil and Deathmatch Simplified are designed by Tormentor667 for Skulltag. At least you can look at the screens while we figure out what is going on...

 Death Blooms Released
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:56 PM
Category: Quake

Jester of the J-Spot released a deathmatch level for Quake 2 that is called Death Blooms.
Yes the J-Spot is alive. I even have a new map for the 2 or 3 people out there who actually still play custom Quake 2 maps. You know who you are! Sticking with the hmm series, the new one is called Death Blooms. Somewhat on the smaller side, should be good for 1v1 or small ffa.
Hit the J-Spot!

 Aberration Caves
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:04 PM
Category: DOOM

My LCD monitor died and now I'm on a tiny CRT that is bugging the hell out of me and I need to find some news and get off here before my retinas implode. So instead of looking at a bunch of dead sites, I jumped on /id Games to see if anybody uploaded anything decent recently and KennyJC released Aberration Caves, that is made for Doom 2 and ZDoom.
Set in underground caves - this map uses Quake1 textures with a tech base theme with some temple thrown in.
So there you go, some Doom to play with. There might be other recent files on /id Games but I'll leave you to find them. I'm off to rest my eyes!

 Eight Years Of Tormentor
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:15 PM
Category: DOOM

According to Tormentor 667 Realm 667 is eight years old.
About 8 years ago I started to create my very first version of Tormentor's Realm 667 with Geocities infamous "Page Builder" (some of you might have heard of this ancient relic in times before PHP and XHTML Winken) and today, exactly 8 years later, it is still online... if that's no reason to celebrate.
Also Stronghold isn't done yet and there's a new section to the "Art & Design" area.

 Marine Mized Gets Ringrazio'd
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:46 PM
Category: DOOM

MaRiNe Mized (v3) was released by MaRiNe for Doom 3. The map is made for multiplayer and is the third version of the level.
I very ringrazio to have to me helped and hope that with he many are found well. I hope that, as it has made before, it puts these rows in filefront. Hello to all I hope that you take my rows.
I think somebody's universal translator was walked on by a cyberdemon. I also just realized there's no screenshots of the map on Doom 3 Files.

 Play Some Destroyer
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:29 PM
Category: Quake

ShaDoW released a map for Quake 3: Arena that is called Destroyer.
The map is made for Cpma tournament play. I was trying to implement some tricks, and some new layout ideas. The map should be done much more earlier, but I don’t have really much time nowadays to play with Radiant
That map is on Map Factory. Not sure what Cpma stands for.... is it just me, or does the gaming community use way to many acronyms?

If you take a look at The Dark Mod site you'll notice that they updated with the news that the AI can now use lifts and you can view a video of how that is working. Also you can view a video of some in-game rat action. Overall they're still working steady with progress on the combat system, prefabs and models. Read more and see those videos on The Dark Mod. For those who don't know, this mod is based on the Thief series and is being designed for Doom 3.

 Stats On Singleplayer Quake Maps
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 6:20 PM
Category: Quake

Spirit over on Quaddicted posted up some graphs and stats on Quake singleplayer maps.
A statistic like “Who made how many maps” is not available (yet) for two reasons: First there is no consistency on spelling and some mappers changed their handles, second there are too many team releases. It would be a lot of manual work.
So anyways if you're interested in the stats of Quake maps released over the years, hit this spot. By the way if you have Doom or even Quake related news you can always send an email here or drop me a PM on the forum.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars 1.5 Patch Soon
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 5:20 PM
Category: Quake

Doom news is at an all time low, or so it seems. Anyhow the 1.5 patch for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is expected to be out sometime next week.
We're currently doing some last minute testing with id Software to track down a few issues that have turned up, but we don't anticipate this to take too much time. We really just want to make sure that all the issues we're aware of are actually addressed rather than pushing out an update with a big asterisk and a list of It'll-break-if-you do-this-ers attached to it.
That's the news off of the Quake Wars site. Heh, I was just thinking, will they ever make an Enemy Territory: Doom Wars?

 Not Much Going On Yet
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:03 PM
Category: Quake

I don't see anything going on in the Doom community so here is a Quake 3: Arena map Xavier Ferrairo released that is called Not yet.
This is my first Quake III map. I've a good experience to mapping QUake I maps with a total of 9 maps. Not Yet is my last creation and their name is for inexperience on QUake III. The map is based on the qw style.
That map is on Map Factory.

 Unpredictable 2.1 Patch
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:25 PM
Category: DOOM

Dafama2K7 is back again and this time he took the Unpredictable mod for Doom 3: Resurrection Of Evil and updated it to version 2.1.

  • Updated with latest NG shaders.
  • Updated with latest tweaked Chromatic Dispersion shaders.
  • Enhanced BFG and Plasmagun weapons.
  • Enhanced ZCommando Plasmagun and BFG fire rate and FX.

By the way this is a 'patch' and you need the last full release of the Unpredictable mod for this to work. I tried to find that on Doom 3 Files but thier search jobby isn't working for me. heh.

 Desolated Update
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:14 PM
Category: DOOM

davethefreak updated his Desolated - The Crying Fate site with the news that he added three screenshots to the site, his coder has the healthregeneration working and the release date is pushed back to december 2008 for the Doom 3 mod.
I've decided to change the release to december 2008 for some simple reasons. First of all, the project became much bigger than planned.
To finish in about two months would mean releasing more kind of an alpha instead of a final mod. I made that mistake with Hell Island so I don't
wanna do that again. Second thing is, in two months I have to join the army for nine months. Therefore I'm gonna by myself a laptop to continue
working but I won't have time for it in the first six weeks, only afterwards.
There's more info over on the Desolated - The Crying Fate site.

 Happy Belated Birthday Wolf3d
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:06 AM
Category: Wolfenstein

I didn't realize that Wolfenstein 3d turned 16 back on the 5th.... nobody said anything... Due to a visit to Planet Rome.Ro I noticed that John Romero posted about the birthday in question.
So here I sit, typing this update on my MacBook, an amazing Apple product, writing about a game I worked on 16 years ago which just happened to be a mere 3 years after I stopped writing for my first Apple love, the Apple II platform. It's been a long time between heavy use of Apple products but now is the time for me to fully switch back into Apple mode. I'm already addicted to my iPhone, Apple TV and MacBook. Next up: iMac and Mac Pro and I'm off and away - goodbye Microsoft.
Have a look at the Wolf3d = 16 update John posted.

 Multiplay Some TOFMines
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:28 AM
Category: DOOM

There's a Doom 3, multiplayer map on Doom 3 Files that was designed by TomOnFIre which goes by the name TOFMines (v1.01).
It´s quiet bright in most places, only few darker areas. There are narrow corridors and more open places, mostly caves, to keep the balance between open fights and getaway - chasing battles. There are at least three ways out of most rooms.
Take a look at TOFMines (v1.01).

 No id Software At E3
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:06 AM
Category: id Software

I was on Shack News and they report that some game companies won't be attending the E3 Media and Business Summit this year, which includes id Software. It turns out that Activision and Vivendi (soon to be merged) won't be attending and other companies have decided not to as well.
Moreover, four other companies—id Software, NCSoft, Codemasters, and Her Entertainment—have also decided not to attend this year's E3, which is organized by the ESA, a group dedicated to the business and public affairs needs of game developers and publishers.
The developers all seem to have other things going on with events n stuff and id Software has QuakeCon in August. Read more right here.

 Odamex Exta Functionality
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:32 AM
Category: DOOM

Nes updated the Odamex site with some info about bans and exceptions with Revision 634 adding extra functionality for Odamex server operators.
As of this revision, though, it will not write the ban and exception lists to any file, meaning that you'd have to either input them all yourself or use the "+exec" function and write the banlist separately into a file.
There is much more to read on the Odamex site.
