 The Guitar Man Returns
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:28 PM
Category: DOOM

ReX updated the Doom Nexus with the info that he's been travelling and playing guitar so his latest project hasn't seen a lot of attention lately, though he did complete a map.
Accordingly, I've had very little time to work on Paranoid. Still, I've managed to complete the High-Security Holding Facility. Now it's on to the caverns and canyons, and then it'll be a wrap for Map04.
Hit Doom Nexus to read a bit more of what ReX said.

 The Dark Mod Update
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:12 PM
Category: DOOM

There's a new update on The Dark Mod with some info about recent fixes to the project since the release of the St. Lucia demo. They also posted a youtube video that demonstrates some of the puzzle possibilities their object-handling system allows.
The response to our St. Lucia demo map has been very gratifying. Seems like people agree that we're on the right track, and we're now pushing ahead to try and prepare a beta release of TDM 1.0 by mid 2009.
Have a look at The Dark Mod.

 Rage On The Radar
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:50 AM
Category: Rage

Lets all hit Games Radar again because they decided to take a look at id Software's art direction in this Rage Preview.
The devs repeatedly point out that the car to on-foot ratio favors the latter, so expect the buggy to take on a similar role to Zelda’s Epona: the steed is essential, but Zelda is hardly a horse simulator.
Take a look at that Rage Preview.

The Coolest And Weirdest Doom Mods Ever
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:41 AM
Category: DOOM

I was on Games Radar this morning due to me looking for a few game related stuff for posting on Mindless Games and noticed that they posted what they (David Houghton) think are The coolest and weirdest Doom mods ever...
From '93 right up to the present day, people are still doing it. We've had successes, we've had failures, we've had classics and we've had baffling artifacts of digital mind-rape that FPS may never, ever recover from. Here are ten of the best around.
I'll leave you to go read what those 10 mods are exactly....

 Going Into Solitude
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:21 AM
Category: DOOM

It seems like ages since I was last on John Romero's forum and I ended up there this morning and discovered Chubz posted this thread over there with the release of a set of Doom maps that he calls Solitude.
"You drop in from the sky; your feet thud against the cold, hard ground. Your fellow marines were killed in the process, but you've taken care of the attackers. The downside? Now you're in their territory. As you step forward and slide open the door ahead of you, you enter an open room that leaves you sick to your stomach. The sight of fresh wooden crates hits home like deja-vu and the stench of acid makes your nostrils cry and your intestines rumble. But now isn't the time to sight-see. You're here for one reason: To kill them before they find and kill you. You're in solitude."
The level was released in October and if you're like me, you only noticed this now. Have a nice day, I'm off.

 Enter The White Room
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 12:29 PM
Category: Quake

I was on Func_Msgboard and I noticed over there a singleplayer map for Quake that's called White Room.
This level was an extension of an idea that I had about creating a Quake level in an abstract way. Keep the usual shapes but take away the textures. I like how it turned out and it was great fun to experiment with using color in a much stronger way than is normally done in a Quake level.
Have a peek at the White Room.

 Kings Cemetery
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:06 PM
Category: DOOM

Kings Cemetery is a Doom 3, singleplayer map that WarlorD69 released.
Kings Cemetery brings you a little closer to Hell, and keeps you there for the duration...your only chance for survival is to use your head, rely on your smarts, and keep your wits about you...having the ability to hit what you aim at won't hurt either smile Be sure to check all of the dead bodies that you come across for anything of value, such as ammo; You will also be able to obtain new weapons and the much sought after med-kits, making the Marines valuable, even in death.
Hit Doom 3 Files to check out Kings Cemetery.

Yeah I 'm A Wrathchild. I'm Coming To Get You, Oooh Yeah
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:24 AM
Category: DOOM

If you hit the Doom3World forum in this particular thread you can read all about the singleplayer, Doom 3 mod that 0m1n0u5 calls Wrathchild.
It is a plot oriented, postapocaliptic, cyber-punk, nonlinear, RPG/FPS-adventure/survival-horror ( in smaller words- Deus Ex/System Shock2 wana-be :) ). What I did was take the atmosphere of the forsaken Von Braun and the plots surrounding JC Denton, most of the gameplay features of both games, and got Wrathchild. A futuristic thriller with many plot twists and atmosphere to, well- to die from. These are big promises, I know, but all of it is done at concept level allready, and some on practice.
Further down the thread you can see that he released the mod and you can downgrab it off of filefront.

NDCP - 4 Maps To Go
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:05 AM
Category: DOOM

I think the Doom news is at an all-time low... a lot of the sites I had in my rotation haven't been updated from anywhere to several months to a couple years. Keeping my own site updated is something I tend to not bother with much but that all depends on how much editing I'm doing. The whole Doom editing thing comes and goes with me. I do some and then I go a week or a month without even touching anything Doom related. I'm totally sporadic and inconsistent with Doom and editing the game. I don't know when I'll start mapping again or when I'll just completely stop. Years ago if I stopped editing Doom I would mess around with some HeXen 2 or Quake, Quake 2 or even Half-Life but nowadays I don't bother with tinkering with other games. Maybe if Bethesda came out with the construction set tools for Fallout 3 i'd be inclined to make a few things. Only problem there is the fact that you are restricted with using set pieces to build with, so your creativity is more or less on a leash, unless your some kind of modeling guru who can make new parts and personally I wouldn't know how to even start to do that. Anyhow, the last editing I've done was my level for the NDCP 2 project which only has 4 maps to go to completion. How long that will take is anybodys guess. I'm off.... sorry for the long windedness.

 Quake2World Revealed
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 5:34 PM
Category: Quake

Here is another one of those mods I never noticed before. This one is called Quake2World and it has not yet been officially released.
Quake2World is a Free, standalone first person shooter video game. Our goal is to bring the fun and excitement of straightforward old-school death-match gaming to a more contemporary platform, and perhaps to a new generation of gamers.
Recently the site was updated with some new screenshots of Aghast and Torn Glory.

 The Ruiner Site Update
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:05 PM
Category: DOOM

The official mod site for The Ruiner was updated with new content, including 12 screenshots, in-game renders of thier new player model, weapons and spells and more stuff on the info page.
Ruiner will be released either mid or late 2009. If more help is gained, then we could release it sooner & give a more concrete release date for the first chapter.
They're also looking for help in the form of modelers, mappers, coders, & animators so if you're interested in joining a Doom 3 mod team, give them a shout. Lots of new info on the site, so go have a look at The Ruiner.

Here I am again doing the Doom news. I jumped on /id Games to see if anything new is worth checking out and apparently theSil3ncer released a Doom 2, singleplayer level called Mall of Mayhem.

Hit /id Games and grab Mall of Mayhem.

 Escape From Enemy Mountain Revealed
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:47 PM
Category: DOOM

I don't get why Mod db says this Escape from Enemy Mountain mod was updated 3 days ago when there is no sign of this so-called update. Anyhow I never heard of this 9 level, Doom 3, singleplayer mod before so I'm pointing it out now.
You start off locked in the Cells of a large, hellish prison, where the demons of Enemy Mountain keep their prey before they feast upon them. You will have to battle numerous demons and deactivate security barriers to get the hell out of there. Then you will have to navigate through the rocky, cavern-themed Dungeons.
Check out Escape from Enemy Mountain. Also check out the official mod site for more info and screenshots n stuff.

 Go To Insomnia Hell
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:57 PM
Category: DOOM

WarlorD69 released a map set of four singleplayer levels for Doom 3 that is called Insomnia.
WarlorD69 has supplied the mappack that will have you laying awake at night wondering how you can get through all four levels when they are laden with monsters, all done in the hellish style. The design of this pack is very well done and the quality is there, however, if your machine is at the lower end of the scale, you may want to sacrifice quality for playability.
That map is available over on Doom 3 Files.

 Beautiful Doom v3.2
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 6:00 PM
Category: DOOM

I was bored so I looked at /id Games and zer0 released version 3.2 of Beautiful Doom which is a mod that enhances the looks of the game and tweaks the weapons and adds new sounds and such.
But the main point of the mod is interaction. Each and every object reacts, you can shoot lamps, destroy hanging corpes, even shoot gibs, etc., etc., etc.
So yeah check out some Beautiful Doom that requires GZDoom 1.1.4 or newer to run.
