7/9/01 - Oblivion Doom III is a mod for Doom -- not classic Doom, but for the new Doom currently in progress by id Software. The project was originally conceived for Doom II, but the team immediately knew they wanted to switch over when it was announced that Doom III was in the making. Team Oblivion wants this to be the first and best New Doom mod. They're promising a strong storyline and music, which is already near completion. And as you can already tell, this is THE Doom III mod to watch out for. We hope you enjoy our exclusive interview with TheRequiem of Oblivion Doom III.


How are you and the rest of the team doing at the moment?

The other team members are currently busy with training exercises and learning different kinds of coding and scripting methods to get us familiar with different engines and etc. so we will be ready for the Doom III when ID releases the tools unless it is part of the game. They are also involved in the GoW clan kicking ass.


How did Oblivion Doom III begin as an Idea?

One day I was writing a story for my English class called "Oblivion", but I was dying to code for Ultimate Doom. I then realized that maybe the story itself should be implemented into Mega Wad for Doom. I opened a website at Angelfire and began a Mega wad two years ago called "Oblivion Doom II", it was going real well... it had 17 levels completed and new music and monsters... That was until [ID Software] announced Doom III that it then occurred to me that I would be able to implement the story into Doom III with cut scenes and etc. The transfer and cancellation of Oblivion Doom II made me loose 20+ members. I only kept 7 and have only gained a few since then. At the rate I'm going I should have a full team in a year and a half.


How did you all come to be working on this project? Have any of you worked together before?

Yeah we did work together on numerous Doom wads since 1995 and since then we've kind of al screwed around but now ever since some of the biggest wads I've worked with projects such as "Requiem" and other various projects. I and my team are now getting are now getting serious again to create something that will bring you up from your chair and will reach to the middle of your brain's fears and let them loose.


How do you start working on a project that does not really exist yet?

What we have done so far is basically get ready and make a team before it releases so by the time it releases we will be coding and creating meanwhile every other "team" will just start to be created and actually work out details. Right now we already have stories, graphics and new ideas for monsters and weapons.


Is there a storyline behind Oblivion Doom III?

Yes there is a really big one... its allot different from the one on the old site since that was created for "Oblivion Doom II". The story that is being written will be very detailed and very... shall I say "breathtaking".


How far along are you with the preparations?

If I were to say "percentage wise" how much we were done with preparation I'd say probably 15 to 20%. It's hard organizing something this big and I've already been doing it for almost a year and I will not give up even if only 7 people have to make it.


Will you be adding new enemies or textures to Oblivion Doom III?

More textures and monsters will be added but were not going to release any details on them yet... There is just always that "possibility" our ideas could be taken before there created.


What sort of music will be in Oblivion Doom III?

The music is almost done... we have various tracks from various buddy's of mine. Some of the music sounds like "Slipknot" and others sound like shit you'd hear from "Resident Evil" or something... just depends on what the level or cut scene is about. Like there will be heavy guitars playing when Cyberdemon's and spider masterminds are approaching and soft music when planets and homes are destroyed... etc.


Is it your hope or intention to be the first mod for the Doom III? Or has that not been thought about?

That's one of the biggest reasons for this mod... we want it to be the best "first" and "best" when it releases.


What has been the most challenging aspect of the project so far?

When Doom III hits store shelves we hit the coding for Oblivion Doom III and we hit the planning for another major project. But the most major aspect about the mod is designing and planning of it so basically it's "Organization". After that is complete it will be a piece of cake.


What does the future hold for Oblivion HQ besides Oblivion Doom III

When Doom III hit's shelves and when we hit the code... I will also plan the design of a new Mega Mod. We are also going to improve our clan so much that one day we hope to be one of the biggest and most feared clan in history, Gods of War awaits to be seen.
